Du’a of Fasting

The Book of Du’a of Fasting

The recommended du’a while fasting

While one has the intention to fast this intention is in the heart and by the tongue as in other acts of worships . When one is fasting  and are abused  should say “ I am fasting, I am fasting (Inni Saaim) . He should sat it twice or even more. Related by Bukhari and Muslim as related by Abu Hurairah

What should one say when breaking the fast

Realted in Sunan Abu Dawud and An-Nasai’ from ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu reported that when the messenger of Allah (sall Allahu alahi wa sallam) broke his fast he would say:“O Allah now that thirst is gone, and the body has refreshed while the reward has been attained if Allah wishes” (dhahaba adhDHmau wab talla-til ‘urooqu wa thabatul ajru inshaa Allah ta’ala

ذهب اظمأُ وابتلّت اعروق وثبت الاجر إن شا ءالله تعا

When the Prophet (sall Allahu alaihi wa sallam) broke his fast he said “O Allah for you have fasted and on with your sustenance I have broken my fast” (Allahumma laka sumtu wa ala rizqika aftartu

اللهم لك صمْت وعلى رزْقك أفْطرت

It was related in the book of ibn al-Sunni from Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) when the Messenger Of Allah (sall Allahu alaihi wa sallam) would break his fast he would say:

“Prised be to Allah, for you we have fasted and with your sustenance we broken our fast may you accept from us . You are all-hearing all-knowing (Alhamdulillahi a’anina fasumtu w rizqika aftarna fataqabil mina inaka anta samiul aleem)

الحمد لله الذي أعانني فصمت ورقني فاْطرت

The above is taken from Adhkar of Imam Nawawi p. 289-290

Caution and Concern

Lets us take heed and beware of the correct time for entering of fajr. Many of the prayer schedules in the west have the fajr entering when the sun is 15 degrees below the horizon, what we have learned from our teachers and what has been checked and re-checked for accuracy. The 15 degrees below the horizon comes about about by seeing the entering of fajr in cites that has many lights so gives one thinking fajr enters earlier that it actually does. 18 degrees is more accurate and closer to taqwa. There really is no problem for fajr prayer time either way one will be praying at the correct time. The problem is in fasting. If one goes by the 15 degrees they will be eating after the actual entering of fajr. The difference is usually only around15-20 minutes or so roughly . So whats the big deal? The reason we should be concerned is so we can do things correct and sound and inshaa Allah are deeds will be accepted before Allah.
